Affirming Mifepristone As Safe and Effective

I joined the entire Senate Democratic caucus in introducing a resolution affirming that the abortion medication, mifepristone, is safe and effective.

Restricting access to mifepristone unnecessarily puts women’s lives at risk. This is yet another example of Trump and extreme Republicans trying to restrict a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.

The resolution came as the Supreme Court’s initial administrative stay in Louisiana v. FDA was set to expire — which would have allowed the Fifth Circuit’s ruling to go into effect, threatening millions of women’s access to mifepristone, even in states where abortion is legal. The Supreme Court eventually ruled to extend the stay until the case makes it through the legal process, allowing mifepristone to remain available via telehealth.

While this case progresses, I’ll keep doing everything that I can to protect women’s reproductive rights.
