Rosen, Horsford Host Roundtable with Veterans to Discuss Improving Access to Homeownership

In June, Senator Rosen And Congressman Horsford Helped Pass The Bipartisan 21st Century ROAD To Housing Act Into Law

LAS VEGAS, NV – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Congressman Steven Horsford (NV-04) recently hosted a roundtable with Nevada veterans to discuss provisions within the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act that improve access to homeownership for veterans. This includes a provision based on the VA Home Loan Awareness Act, which Senator Rosen helped introduce to increase awareness and understanding of VA home loan benefits. The ROAD to Housing bill she and Horsford helped pass into law also included provisions to improve mortgage disclosures for veterans to compare VA-backed loans with other housing and financing options, and a rule that excludes veterans’ disability vouchers from income for the Housing and Urban Development-VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program, which provides housing vouchers to veterans based on the support and care they need.

“Too many hardworking Nevadans, including thousands of veterans, are being squeezed by the high costs of homeownership and rent, forcing them to make tough decisions. The bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act we passed into law is a great step toward addressing the housing crisis for our veterans and anyone trying to afford a home,” said Senator Rosen. “I enjoyed hearing from leaders in our veteran community about how this landmark legislation will help them, and I will continue working to ensure that our veterans and servicemembers never have to wonder if they have a home to come back to.”

“No veteran who served and protected our country should have to struggle with stable, secure housing,” said Rep. Horsford. “This legislation rights what should have never been allowed to happen. We entrusted our veterans with our lives, and it’s our duty to support them transition into civilian life.”

Senator Rosen has been fighting to make housing more affordable in Nevada. She has helped secure millions in federal funding for housing projects across the state, including almost $5 million for Tribal Housing and more than $3.3 million for the construction of affordable housing. Earlier this year, Senator Rosen introduced the bipartisan Boosting Housing Supply through Small Business Act, which would help increase the housing supply while expanding support for small businesses in the industry. She has also introduced legislation to exclude homebuilding materials from Trump’s tariffs in order to lower housing costs, and, alongside Rep. Horsford, called on the administration to crack down on corporate price gouging in the housing market.
